Information San Basilio Cultural Tourist Center was inaugurated in 1995 to gather some finds discovered during the archaeological excavations carried out in location San Basilio (country hamlet of Ariano nel Polesine - Rovigo) between the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. The finds are on display in three showcases.
In the first showcase the most ancient finds are preserved: local household pottery belonging both to the Paleoveneta and Etruscan civilizations, found in a house of the 6th-5th century BC.
The settlement was situated next to the coastline.
In the second one there are "fine" meal pottery, oil lamps for nocturnal lighting, needles and hairpins in bones or horn, glass and terra sigillata, found in a Roman villa which was brought to the light in the 80s at a few hundred meters from San Basilio Center.
The third showcase houses parts of the villa, some roofing-tiles, fragments of painted plaster, and several amphorae, symbol of the important passage of goods by river and land.
In the surroundings of the villa, two big blocks of pink marble of Domegliara (VR) have been found: squared, with broken corner and traces of processing. One of them has been placed outside the Center.
